Bra Tops in Autumn? Celebrities Are Daring to Bare

Picture this: It’s a brisk fall day, you’re stepping out to get a latte, let’s say, and you’re wearing… just your bra. If that sounds to you like the stuff of nightmares, get onboard, babe, because it’s happening. Half of Hollywood is embracing the bra top this season—but not in the mildly alarming way that you may imagine.

Rather than sporting actual undergarments out in the street, stylish stars have reached for tops made of luxurious leathers, or covered in pretty embroideries. Think of the look less like lingerie, and more like garments actually designed to be seen by the public. In fact, they instantly command a double-take.

The trend started gaining traction on the fall 2025 runways: at Miu Miu, the bra tops came coyly layered under knit cardigans, while Givenchy’s colorful, satiny bras were paired with elegant embroidered skirts. With thick straps and luxe-feeling fabrics, the styles are true statement pieces, designed to peek out from under a favorite jacket or hit the town with jeans or dress trousers.

Soon enough, the tops had made their way onto celebrities—even as temperatures dropped. In October, Kylie Jenner was spotted in Paris wearing a blue bra top with black trim, a gingham pencil skirt, and an oversized black blazer. (The effect was to make her prim-and-proper staples feel a bit more youthful and flirty.) Jenner’s older sister Kim Kardashian also rocked a bra top this fall, but in lilac and under a faux-fur shawl. And then there were the Brits, like Lily Allen and FKA Twigs, who took their itty-bitty bra tops to the red carpet—Twigs wearing one in tough leather, Allen opting for angelic white satin.

A number of celebrities have also made the bra top suit…well, their suiting. Tessa Thompson wore a red bra top with a matching skirt suit in New York; and Jessica Biel transformed a black suit from office-appropriate to going-out-worthy with her top. That’s really the beauty of the trend: Even the most buttoned-up outfit can suddenly feel fun. And what ever happened to fun?!

Does this mean that, as you brave the winter months ahead, you’re obliged to put away your cozy sweaters and embrace the skin-bearing bra at all costs? Certainly not! There is a time and a place for such a styling trick: the upcoming holiday party circuit in particular comes to mind. Instead of a customary sequin dress or classic LBD, why not slip into a velvety suit and finish it off with a saucy bra top? It’s appropriately dressy, party-ready, and runway-approved.
